Impact of Tillage and Crop Rotation Systems on Soil Carbon Sequestration
نویسنده
چکیده
What is carbon (C) sequestration? Carbon sequestration can be defi ned as the capture and secure storage of carbon that would otherwise be emitted to or remain in the atmosphere. The idea is to (1) prevent carbon emissions produced by human activities from reaching the atmosphere by capturing and diverting them to secure storage, or (2) remove carbon from the atmosphere by various means and store it.

Effects of agricultural management on soil organic matter and carbon transformation – a review
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is the most often reported attribute and is chosen as the most important indicator of soil quality and agricultural sustainability. In this review, we summarized how cultivation, crop rotation, residue and tillage management, fertilization and monoculture affect soil quality, soil organic matter (SOM) and carbon transformation. The results confirm that SOM is not only ...
متن کاملCrop management effect on chemical and biological properties of soil
This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of crop rotation and various tillage systems onthe chemical and biological properties of soil in the years 2013-2015. The first order factorincluded cropping systems: a) crop rotation (pea – winter wheat – spring wheat) and b)monoculture of winter wheat, whereas the second order factor were tillage systems:1) conventional (CT), 2) reduced (RT) and 3...
متن کاملCropping systems, tillage and fertilization strategies for durum wheat performance and soil properties
Many sustainable agronomical practices can be adopted to contain environmental risks of crop production and, at the same time, sustain yield and quality. In this framework, the aim of this research was to study the effects of continuous cropping (CC) and crop rotation, tillage and fertilization strategies on durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) production. The responses of soil properties we...
متن کاملTillage and crop residue effects on soil carbon and carbon dioxide emission in corn-soybean rotations.
Soil C change and CO2 emission due to different tillage systems need to be evaluated to encourage the adoption of conservation practices to sustain soil productivity and protect the environment. We hypothesize that soil C storage and CO2 emission respond to conservation tillage differently from conventional tillage because of their differential effects on soil properties. This study was conduct...
متن کاملThe role of soil organic matter in maintaining soil quality in continuous cropping systems
Maintenance and improvement of soil quality in continuous cropping systems is critical to sustaining agricultural productivity and environmental quality for future generations. This review focuses on lessons learned from long-term continuous cropping experiments. Soil organic carbon (SOC) is the most often reported attribute from long-term studies and is chosen as the most important indicator o...
